Researchers from The Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, have developed a new photo-uncaging system for photodynamic cancer therapy using organorhodium(III) phthalocyanine complexes that are activated in situ by pulsed light to release alkyl radicals, which have an anti-tumor effect. This new system overcomes many of the problems of pre-existing systems and provides an exciting new avenue for cancer treatment.
