Researchers from the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo have improved the compressive strength and other properties of recycled concrete after high-pressure compaction. For example, one thermally treated sample exhibited >5× improvement compared with no thermal treatment. The results of this work will help minimize the carbon footprint of the construction industry by making maximum use of concrete that would otherwise be wasted.
