To understand actual behaviors of the ground, structures, failure mechanisms and soil-structure interactions during natural earthquakes, earthquake response observations of weak structural models which were designed intentionally weak to be damaged by moderate earthquakes have been carried out since 1983.
Recently hysteresis dampers made of steel with low yield strength are placed on the first floor of one steel structure, and their effectiveness to reduce structural responses are investigated.
