Researchers from the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo found that fabricating microneedle array patches (MAPs) on a 3D-printed backing layer consisting of an array of tiny pillars improves their immunogenicity and efficacy. Mice vaccinated with these pillar-guided MAPs exhibited specific immune responses that protected them against lethal SARS-CoV-2 infection.
