Simple process to fabricate separable bundled gel fibers
Simple process to fabricate separable bundled gel fibers

Dr. Yukiko Matsunaga's research group has developed a new type of gel scaffold for cell culture. They found that blended naturally-derived polymers form a 3D network structure in aqueous solution under appropriate conditions. The 3D polymer network was transformed into bundled gel fibers after being injected into a microfluidic device and applied flow. The resulting bundled gel fiber enabled the alignment of cultured cells along the fibers, showing promising potential for use in muscle and nerve tissue formation as a cell culture scaffold.
