The First UTokyo Global Advisory Board Meeting

The first UTokyo Global Advisory Board Meeting took place on November 27th and 28th, 2017, at Institute of Industrial Science on the Komaba II campus. 23 members, representing academia, industry and government, attended this meeting to discuss their views and opinions with President Makoto Gonokami and other senior members of the University.
On day 1, IIS Director General Teruo Fuji introduced IIS as one of the reseach institutes of the University of Tokyo.
On day 2, international joint activities that are now undergoing were introduced including LIMMS and SMMiL-E. Participants then visited the RCA-IIS Tokyo Design-Lab, which is a collaborative activity of the Royal College of Art and IIS, where they got to see several protopypes. "Aura" is a "bio-intelligent machine" that reads biochemical signals and process them. Another prototype called "Transparent Intent" on display interprets a person's intentions and responds accordingly. The participants were all impressed and convinced the technology bodes well for the future of the IIS.
