Introduction Introduction

Outline Outline

There are over one hundred labs at Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo. The cutting-edge research performed at these labs cover a vast range of subjects, from nano-scale phenomenon to the global environment. Recently, a new design laboratory was added to the institute, kicking off a new initiative that combines engineering and design to explore more rewarding relationships between humans and technology.

In this exhibition, we present prototypes that have resulted from this research along with their respective background technologies. What if we let a machine read our emotions? Create a beautiful prosthetic leg? Float basketball-sized probes in the ocean? By combining distinct research efforts in new and interesting ways, we begin to see our imaginations become reality and get a glimpse of a possible future.
