A characteristic feature found in disordered amorphous materials
Dr. Hajime Tanaka's research group have discovered by simulations that fluctuations of elasticity are correlated over long distance in amorphous solids that do not have regular periodic structures unlike crystals. Such long-range correlations may be the crucial feature that distinguishes amorphous solids from crystals.
