The Regional Network Office for Urban Safety(RNUS), a joint research hub between the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo (UTokyo-IIS), and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), successfully organized 5th International Joint Student Seminar on One Health One World (2026) at AIT, Thailand from 26 to 28 August 2026.
Held under the theme of "One Health One World," the seminar marked its fifth consecutive year of serving as a platform for interdisciplinary research, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration among young researchers across Asia. The program featured 4 special lectures, 31 student presentations, and 2 invited research presentations, with all technical sessions moderated by Prof. Khin Myat Kyaw (Wataru. Takeuchi Lab., UTokyo-IIS).
The seminar opened on 26 August with welcome remarks from Prof. Ekbordin Winijkul, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, AIT, and Prof. Pennung Warnitchai, Professor of Structural Engineering at AIT. Special lectures by Prof. Teerayut Horanont, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT) Thammasat University, Thailand(an alumnus of Ryosuke Shibasaki lab., UTokyo )and Prof. Yukiko Matsunaga, UTokyo-IIS highlighted AI-driven innovation and biological thermal design, respectively. Student presentations showcased research in AI, transportation, infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and emerging engineering technologies. The first day concluded with an AIT campus tour and a welcome reception that fostered networking and academic exchange among students.
On 27 August, the focus shifted to resilience, sustainability, and smart infrastructure. Keynote presentations by Dr. Chaitanya Krishna, AIT (an alumnus of Kimiro Meguro lab., UTokyo-IIS) and Dr. Srikulnath Nilnoree, Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand addressed seismic safety and intelligent monitoring systems. Research presentations showcased advancements in recycled construction materials, flood and landslide risk assessment, remote sensing, precision agriculture, air quality monitoring, UAV-LiDAR applications, earthquake damage mapping, and biomedical engineering. The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Matsunaga, and three students were honored with Best Presenter Awards for their outstanding presentations.
On 28 August, participants joined a technical and cultural tour in Bangkok, featuring a site visit to the MRT Orange Line Construction Project, a networking lunch, a cruise along the Chao Phraya River, and a visit to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). The tour offered valuable insights into Thailand's infrastructure development and cultural heritage while strengthening professional connections among participants.
Overall, 5th international joint student seminar on OHOW successfully strengthened connections among students and researchers across Asia while promoting interdisciplinary innovation toward a more sustainable, resilient, and healthier future.
