Overview of Campus

By the end of March, 2001 we had completed the transfer of the IIS facilities from Roppongi in Tokyo to Komaba; the current campus is divided into two sections: one in Komaba, Tokyo and the other in the Chiba district of Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. The Komaba Campus is home to the Research Departments and the Administration Departments of the IIS, along with the affiliated research centers and Central Workshop and Electronic Computer Center, which are shared service facilities; while the Chiba Experiment Station affiliated research facilities for large-scale research are found at Chiba. The details of the locations, sites and buildings of the Campus and the Experiment Station are as shown below:

Water supply, electricity, telephones, air conditioning and heating

The Metropolis of Tokyo supplies water, monthly average consumption is 4,200m3.
Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. supplies electricity under the terms of a private contract and we have the facilities for special high-voltage of 60kV and 20,000kVA; 1,423,900kWh is estimated as monthly average consumption.
For air conditioning and heating, individual multi-type air conditioning equipment is installed for each laboratory.
A dial-in service is used for telephones, with a total capacity of about 1,680 lines.

Water supply, electricity, gas and telephones

At present running water is supplied by the Waterworks Department of Chiba Prefecture and our in-house water service, and monthly average consumption is 52m3 for service water and 1,232m3 for sewerage. Based on a contract for private use with Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc., we receive 6kV of transmitted electricity (maximum capacity: 830kVA) and supply 3kV of electricity within the premises. Monthly average consumption is 64,608 kWh.

Gas is supplied by the Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., and monthly average consumption is 2,365 m3. We have 11 telephone lines from the Chiba Telephone Office; our switchboard has a capacity of 100 lines with an electronic switching system.
