Self-assembled monolayers prepared by organic molecules have become important for fundamental interest in surface science as well as the possibility of technological applications. In particular, it is well known that compounds having sulfur headgroup are the key molecules for providing well-organized SAMs through chemical reaction on metal surfaces. In this study, to explore new class SAMs, the SAMs formed by organic thiosulfate on Au(111) were prepared and characterized by various surface sensitive techniques. From these results, we will discuss surface structure and formation mechanism of organic thiosulfate SAMs on Au(111).
