We have synthesized a disulfide derivative with two identical bicyclo[2.2.2]octane moieties. This derivative formed a self-assembled monolayer on Au (111), which was prepared on mica under UHV at 300 °C. The structure of the self-assembled monolayer was studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) with a tungsten tip. Due to the bulkiness of the bicyclo[2.2.2]octane moiety, the SAM has slightly different structure from that of SAMs of n-alkanethiol derivatives. Effect of annealing of the SAM will be also presented.
